International Data Consultant – Education Data (Remote, Abuja)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an International Data Consultant to support the Nigerian Ministry of Education in mainstreaming the Education Management Information System (EMIS) across the country. The consultant will work remotely, with regular visits to Abuja, for a 12‑month assignment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Ministry in operationalising EMIS modules, including the annual school census, safe school, and student registry.
• Provide technical guidance on data collection, management, analysis and use to inform policy and programme decisions.
• Collaborate with UNICEF, the University of Oslo and other partners to ensure the DHIS‑2 platform meets national requirements.
• Support capacity‑building activities for federal, state and local education authorities.
• Monitor and report on data quality and system performance.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree or equivalent experience in education data, statistics, or information management.
• Demonstrated experience working with large‑scale education information systems, preferably DHIS‑2 or similar platforms.
• Experience supporting government ministries or international development programmes.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills in English; ability to work remotely and travel to Nigeria as required.
