Customs Broker

About the role

Ednaevans & Co Ltd is looking for an experienced Customs Broker to manage the clearance of inbound and outbound shipments at its Lagos operations. The role involves handling all customs documentation, tariff classification, duty payments and close coordination with customs officials, shipping lines and other logistics partners.

Key responsibilities

• Process customs declarations and entries for inbound and outbound cargo.
• Prepare, review and maintain customs documentation from initiation through cargo release.
• Verify tariff classifications and apply correct HS Codes.
• Manage duty assessments, payments and reconciliation.
• Coordinate cargo examinations with customs officials and attend physical examinations when required.
• Resolve customs queries, assessment issues and documentation discrepancies.
• Liaise with shipping lines, terminal operators, transporters and regulatory agencies.
• Track clearance timelines, proactively manage potential delays and minimise demurrage.
• Prepare regular customs clearance and operational reports ensuring compliance with Nigerian regulations.

Required profile

• Valid customs agent license or NCS registration (mandatory).
• 3–5 years of active customs brokerage or cargo‑clearance experience.
• Strong hands‑on knowledge of Lagos port operations.
• Demonstrated experience with relevant customs processing platforms.
• In‑depth understanding of tariff classification, HS Codes, customs valuation and duty computation.
• Existing working relationships within the port ecosystem are an advantage.
• Excellent problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management abilities.
