About the role
The Shipping Assistant supports container loading operations, ensuring that every export container complies with the company’s quality, security and export‑compliance standards. The role involves inspecting containers, coordinating with warehouse staff and agents, and documenting the loading process to guarantee safe and efficient movement of cargo.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct pre‑loading inspections of empty containers and capture clear photographs of containers and drivers for documentation.
- Dress containers with required dry bags, corrugated boards and kraft paper before loading.
- Verify the presence and condition of high‑security sealing hooks and reject non‑compliant containers.
- Perform joint inspections with the warehouse team to confirm container suitability.
- Check security features such as ventilation holes, structural condition, cleanliness and dryness.
- Supervise and monitor container stuffing to ensure adherence to company procedures.
- Report stock levels of dressing materials to the Logistics Department.
- Prepare and submit daily reports of loaded trucks to the Port Tracking Team.
- Maintain organized records and secure backups of inspection photographs and loading documents.
- Immediately report any non‑compliance, damaged containers or security concerns.
- Coordinate out‑station operations and stuffing at designated terminals when required.
- Follow all safety, security and export‑compliance procedures throughout the loading process.
Required profile
- Minimum HND or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Transport Management, Maritime Studies or related field.
- 0–3 years of experience in shipping, warehouse operations, logistics or export documentation.
- Basic knowledge of Nigerian export procedures and familiarity with NCS, NPA, shipping lines and export terminals is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player able to work productively with diverse groups.
Required skills
- Proficiency in using smartphones or digital devices to capture and maintain inspection records.
