Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing technology company that enables businesses in Africa to accept payments online and offline, is looking for a Senior Legal Associate. You will join the Legal team to ensure that products and operations comply with legal, regulatory and ethical standards while driving efficient, scalable legal processes.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as merchant, partner, NDA and vendor contracts.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries and playbooks to improve consistency.
• Maintain audit‑ready contract repositories and documentation systems.
• Provide legal support to cross‑functional teams including fraud, HR, finance, sales, product, engineering and customer support.
• Assist with corporate governance, litigation support, advisory services and legal operations.
• Lead process‑improvement initiatives and implement scalable legal workflows.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience in the financial services or fintech sector is a strong asset.
• Tech‑savvy, comfortable with Microsoft Office and legal‑tech tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Proven project‑management ability, attention to detail and capacity to meet tight deadlines.
• Analytical mindset, sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and a collaborative, positive attitude.
