Legal Counsel

About the role

The Group is seeking a proactive Legal Counsel to provide expert legal advice and risk‑management support across its energy and utilities operations. You will work closely with senior management and business teams to ensure compliance, protect the company’s interests, and facilitate strategic transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely legal advice and risk‑management support to management and business teams across the Group.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage contracts, transaction documents and other legal instruments.
• Support structuring of commercial transactions, investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic collaborations.
• Conduct legal due diligence and prepare or coordinate transaction documentation for corporate deals.
• Advise on applicable laws, regulations, licences, permits and approvals affecting the Group’s operations.
• Assist with application, renewal and maintenance of regulatory licences, permits, consents and approvals.
• Develop, review and implement legal, compliance and risk‑management policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Manage disputes, claims, litigation, regulatory enquiries and relationships with external counsel.

Required profile

• LL.B. from a recognised institution and called to the Nigerian Bar (B.L.).
• Minimum 3‑5 years post‑call experience in a reputable law firm, in‑house legal department or regulated industry.
• Demonstrated experience in commercial contract drafting, negotiation and corporate transactions.
• Working knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, contract, employment and regulatory law.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
