Lead Instrumentation Assurance Consultant

About the role

IPMC (Independent Project Monitoring Company) is seeking a senior Lead Instrumentation Assurance Consultant to head the instrumentation and control systems assurance function for a landmark industrial oil & gas plant in Nigeria. Reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for independent verification, assurance, and certification of all instrumentation works while leading a multidisciplinary assurance team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, organise and supervise the instrumentation assurance team, allocating resources across contractor packages.
• Mentor and provide technical direction to associates and local site engineers, reviewing their inspection findings and reports.
• Coordinate daily activities with lead civil, mechanical, electrical and cost engineers, reporting progress, risks and resourcing needs.
• Represent IPMC in meetings with the employer’s site management, escalating and resolving conflicts.
• Review contractor deliverables for compliance with designs, specifications and codes.
• Verify field installations – instruments, PLC/DCS/SCADA, control valves, analyzers, cabling – against approved drawings and As‑Built records.
• Conduct site inspections and technical audits, personally or through supervised staff.
• Certify critical instrumentation and control works, such as safety‑instrumented systems (SIS) and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years (144 months) of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably in oil & gas or large‑scale industrial projects.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary assurance or audit teams.
• Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards and best practices for instrumentation.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with client, contractors and senior project leadership.
