Internal Control & Compliance Manager

About the role

MAX is seeking an Internal Control & Compliance Manager to oversee the design, implementation and monitoring of internal controls, policies and risk management processes across its operations in Africa. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and supports the organization’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Review and authenticate monthly bank reconciliation statements prepared by the finance unit for each country.
• Formulate policies and procedures to improve internal controls, compliance and operational efficiency.
• Provide timely reporting on the internal control framework and any control deficiencies to senior leadership and the audit committee.
• Review cash advances and floats, and lead internal control reviews across the team.
• Reconcile internal accounts and monitor progress on action plans addressing control gaps.
• Review documentation on PAMS and contract documentation on LAMs.
• Reconcile inventory stock at all locations.
• Lead leadership and team‑building initiatives, motivating and developing the team to achieve results.

Required profile

• Minimum a bachelor’s degree in Accounts or Finance; professional qualification is a plus.
• At least 7 years of experience in audit, control or risk management.
• Proven ability to develop controls that prevent leakages within an organization.
• Strong knowledge of risk and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact with executives and subject‑matter experts.
• Assertive, methodical and analytical with a strong customer focus.
• Demonstrated commitment to action and ability to build trust.
• Understanding of strategic business management is beneficial.
