Director, Portfolio Operations

About the role

The Director, Portfolio Operations acts as the Managing Director’s execution proxy, overseeing the organisation’s operational engine so the MD can focus on capital raising, sovereign relationships, and board governance. This senior position carries full operational authority over Portfolio Managers and Function Heads and includes a delegation of authority up to ₦100,000,000.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Portfolio Manager accountability system and enforce Delegation of Authority (DoA) thresholds.
• Own and maintain the governance calendar, including board pack production and policy enforcement.
• Build, strengthen, and lead cross‑functional teams, including HoldCo recruitment processes.
• Act as the institutional face of the MD on operational matters and manage operational demands on executive leadership.
• Identify emerging portfolio risks within 72 hours and provide leadership recommendations.
• Produce portfolio digests covering RAG status, capital deployment, milestones, and risk exposure.
• Recommend portfolio wind‑down or capital reallocation where necessary.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of progressive operational experience with proven accountability.
• Experience managing difficult teams and driving performance.
• Direct experience in at least two sectors such as Energy, Technology, Manufacturing, Property, or Government/DFI environments.
• Strong understanding of the Nigerian institutional environment and government/DFI relationship management.
• Educational qualification: ICAN, ACAM, or equivalent financial literacy gained through operational experience.
