Waste Supervisor – Medical & Non-Medical

About the role

The Waste Supervisor will ensure safe, efficient and compliant management of all waste streams generated within the African Medical Centre of Excellence hospital. This role protects public health and the environment by enforcing waste‑management protocols and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee proper segregation of medical and non‑medical waste at the point of generation, ensuring correct labeling and packaging.
• Manage waste storage areas, coordinate collection schedules, and maintain accurate records of quantities collected and disposed.
• Supervise treatment and off‑site disposal of medical waste, liaising with approved contractors and monitoring compliance with hazardous‑waste manifest requirements.
• Prepare regular waste‑management reports, analyze data for trends, and submit required documentation to regulatory agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health or a related field (preferred).
• Professional certification or membership of a recognized environmental or waste‑management body.
• Minimum five years of waste‑management experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of medical waste regulations, occupational hazards and safety standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in waste segregation, handling and disposal techniques.
• Ability to operate waste‑handling equipment safely.
• Strong record‑keeping and documentation abilities.
• Competence in data analysis and reporting.
