WASH Manager (P-4) – Temporary Appointment, Abuja

About the role

The WASH Manager will strengthen programme quality, consistency and accountability across UNICEF's water, sanitation and hygiene portfolio in Nigeria. Reporting to the Chief WASH, the role supports evidence‑based decision‑making and ensures that interventions meet high standards and achieve sustainable results for children and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme.
• Improve consistency and quality of WASH infrastructure and services across all programme areas.
• Strengthen monitoring, documentation and verification processes for programme results.
• Apply risk‑informed planning and implementation practices.
• Increase confidence in reported results for partners, donors and stakeholders.
• Identify and resolve implementation challenges in a timely manner.
• Provide technical guidance and advisory services to government, sector agencies and International Development Banks.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing WASH programmes in humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven ability to work with senior government officials and donor agencies.
• Strong analytical, reporting and leadership skills.
• Familiarity with UNICEF policies and procedures.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in water, sanitation and hygiene programme management.
• Knowledge of WASH infrastructure standards and best practices.
• Experience with monitoring and evaluation tools and risk‑informed planning.
• Ability to produce high‑quality donor and stakeholder reports.
