Typesetter

About the role

The Typesetter will prepare textbooks, workbooks, storybooks and other educational materials for print and digital publication. Working closely with editors, graphic designers and illustrators, you will ensure that each page meets the company’s layout standards and production specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Set and format manuscripts, applying consistent headings, paragraphs, tables, captions and footnotes.
• Place illustrations, photographs, diagrams and tables accurately, maintaining visual balance on each page.
• Collaborate with editors to implement corrections, prepare files for proofreading and incorporate feedback.
• Check typeset pages for missing text, formatting errors, incorrect page breaks and style inconsistencies.
• Prepare final files for printing and digital distribution, and maintain organized version control.

Required profile

• Minimum OND in Publishing, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with a strong portfolio.
• At least three years of experience in typesetting, book production or desktop publishing, preferably in educational publishing.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong understanding of typography and page layout, and good knowledge of spelling and punctuation.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet tight publishing deadlines.
