Social & Behavior Change Specialist – Polio Outbreak Response

About the role

The Social & Behavior Change Specialist will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of SBC/ACSM interventions aimed at increasing caregiver acceptance of polio vaccination, reducing missed children, and countering misinformation across Nigeria.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans and micro‑plans for polio outbreak response.
• Oversee campaign readiness, field supervision and quality improvement activities.
• Drive community engagement, social mobilisation and trust‑building initiatives.
• Manage refusal conversion, misinformation response and missed‑children reduction.
• Utilise data for monitoring, reporting and knowledge management.
• Coordinate with government agencies, WHO, partners and donors to align activities.
• Provide capacity‑building, innovation and continuous improvement support.
• Ensure accountability and fulfil additional duties as required.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in social/behavioural science, communication for development, public health, health promotion, sociology, anthropology, psychology, development studies or a related field.
• Proven experience designing and implementing SBC/ACSM interventions, preferably in immunisation or polio programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with national and sub‑national health authorities and multiple development partners.
• Strong understanding of Nigeria’s health system and community‑based mobilisation structures.
