Social & Behavior Change Specialist – P3 (Abuja, Nigeria)

About the role

UNICEF Nigeria is seeking a Social & Behavior Change (SBC) Specialist (P3) to support the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and State Primary Health Care Boards in strengthening routine childhood immunisation across Abuja and surrounding regions. The specialist will work on both operational and demand‑generation components of the national immunisation programme, aiming to increase coverage and reduce the number of zero‑dose children.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement SBC strategies that address behavioural barriers such as vaccine hesitancy, low caregiver confidence and gender dynamics.
• Collaborate with government partners and community structures to promote awareness of routine immunisation schedules and benefits.
• Support demand‑generation activities including advocacy, interpersonal communication, social mobilisation and revitalisation of volunteer networks.
• Contribute to the integration of SBC approaches with broader health system investments such as cold‑chain expansion and supply‑chain management.
• Monitor and report on the impact of SBC interventions on immunisation uptake in hard‑to‑reach and insecure areas.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in social and behaviour change, public health or immunisation programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, NGOs and community groups.
• Strong understanding of the social and cultural factors influencing vaccine uptake in low‑resource settings.
