Senior Prompt Engineer

About the role

VentureC, the African affiliate of Agentous Inc., a U.S.-based AI technology company, is hiring a Senior Prompt Engineer in Nigeria. The company builds production-grade agentic AI systems for enterprise customers in specialty finance, credit risk operations and merchant commerce. The role suits engineers with a strong software foundation and hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and optimize advanced prompts and agentic workflows for production AI systems.
• Build reliable AI agents able to reason across multiple steps, call tools and APIs, and run autonomous tasks.
• Create structured prompts, system instructions and context-management strategies to improve agent performance.
• Build and maintain evaluation frameworks measuring accuracy, reliability, hallucination rates and task completion.
• Implement prompt versioning, regression testing and systematic performance optimization.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers and technical leads to integrate AI agents into enterprise applications.
• Troubleshoot complex agent behaviors such as reasoning failures, tool-selection errors and inconsistent outputs.
• Optimize agents for latency, token consumption, operating cost and response quality.
• Research and apply emerging techniques in LLM engineering, RAG, agent orchestration and model evaluation.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical standards and best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related).
• At least five years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer or in a closely related role.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience building applications with large language models.
• Ability to evaluate and improve LLM outputs through experimentation, testing and quantitative analysis.

Required skills

• Strong programming in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or another modern language.
• Prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling and LLM API integrations.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, APIs, data structures, algorithms and debugging.
• Preferred: production AI agents, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, LangGraph/LangChain, RAG, vector databases, multi-agent architectures, automated evaluation, observability, and experience in financial services or regulated industries.

The target monthly pay range is N800,000 to N1,100,000 depending on verified experience. Candidates apply through LinkedIn with their current resume.
