Senior Natural Resource Management Officer

About the role

The Senior Natural Resource Management Officer will provide technical leadership for natural resource management and ecosystem restoration activities under the Protecting Food Security Against Flood & Drought Cycles project in Katsina State, Nigeria.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and monitor natural resource management interventions, including soil and water conservation, vegetative restoration, dune stabilization, and sustainable rangeland management.
• Ensure all activities align with Mercy Corps resilience standards, national environmental policies, and donor requirements.
• Lead community capacity‑strengthening initiatives and promote community‑based natural resource governance.
• Coordinate with local government, private sector, and civil‑society partners to deliver project outcomes.
• Produce technical reports, quality‑assurance documentation, and performance monitoring data.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in natural resource management, climate adaptation, or watershed restoration.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian environmental regulations and resilience programming.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex field projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
