Senior Mining Engineer

About the role

Carogas Services Limited is expanding into direct extraction of barite and other industrial minerals across Nigeria’s Benue Trough. The company needs a senior mining engineer with proven experience in designing and operating open‑pit mines to turn geological appraisals into executable excavation plans.

Key responsibilities

• Receive deposit appraisal data and produce complete open‑pit designs, including bench geometry, slope angles, haul ramp layout and waste stripping sequences.
• Determine excavator positioning and extraction sequencing to maximise ore recovery per shift while minimising dilution.
• Prepare clear mine plans for site supervisors and equipment operators.
• Specify excavation methods, blasting requirements or confirm suitability of mechanical excavation.
• Establish wall stability criteria, ground‑condition management protocols and wet‑season dewatering arrangements.
• Recommend equipment specifications (excavator size, bucket type, support plant) matched to deposit geometry and target throughput.
• Define ore‑handling procedures from face to stockpile, including grade‑based segregation.
• Prepare short‑interval mine schedules aligned with the beneficiation plant’s ore‑feed requirements.
• Monitor extraction progress, revise designs as geology is exposed, and ensure compliance with Nigerian Mines Inspectorate regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (MSc preferred).
• 12–15 years of open‑pit mining experience with direct responsibility for pit design, extraction sequencing and production delivery.
• Proven track record of independently designing and opening new pits.
• Experience with vein‑hosted or selectively mined industrial minerals such as barite, fluorspar or limestone.
• Deep knowledge of slope stability, tropical ground conditions and wet‑season dewatering.
• Ability to direct excavator and mobile plant operations.
