Senior Medical Assistant (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Senior Medical Assistant on a maternity‑cover basis to support its Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Lagos, Nigeria. Reporting to the Chief Migration Health Officer and directly supervised by the Migration Health Officer or Nursing Officer, the incumbent will ensure smooth operation of the call centre, data processing, and administrative functions.

Key responsibilities

• Organise the Medical Assistants roster, assign duties and manage day‑to‑day scheduling.
• Develop, update and enforce MHAC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Supervise and train Medical Assistants to comply with SOPs.
• Assist in analysing migrant‑flow tools and monitoring scheduling trends.
• Prepare medical forms, laboratory labels, serology code books and chest‑x‑ray labels.
• Maintain a well‑organized and presentable reception area.
• Handle switchboard operations, respond to telephone and walk‑in inquiries, and provide refugee/immigrant assistance as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in medical assistance within a health‑assessment or migration‑health setting.
• Proven ability to supervise and train staff.
• Strong organisational skills for roster management and SOP development.
• Familiarity with preparing medical documentation and labels.
• Capability to analyse operational data and monitor trends.
