Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are building a new category of indoor autonomous hardware and need a senior mechanical design engineer to own the structural, actuation and manufacturability aspects of the product. You will translate creative concepts into safe, robust, and production‑ready hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Define the mechanical architecture – chassis, housing, internal layout and load paths – and ensure designs meet injection‑moulded polymer constraints.
• Design and specify actuation systems (motors, gearboxes, joints, linkages) and maintain physical envelope limits for motion.
• Perform tolerance stack‑up and structural/FEA analysis, select materials and finishes, and manage thermal, power and load considerations.
• Take concepts through prototyping (3D printing, CNC) to production‑ready tooling, applying DFM/DFA principles and working with contract manufacturers.
• Collaborate closely with character/motion designers, firmware and electrical engineers to integrate sensors, wiring and mechanical interfaces.

Required profile

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Proven experience with design‑for‑manufacture, injection moulding and material selection for engineering polymers.
• Background designing small‑form‑factor consumer electronics or robotics enclosures.
• Ability to work from prototype through to production, including hands‑on prototyping.

Required skills

• Full command of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar).
• Tolerance stack‑up analysis and structural/FEA analysis.
• Design‑for‑manufacture and design‑for‑assembly principles.
• Specification and integration of motors, gearboxes and actuation systems.
• Python scripting for design automation (preferred).
