About the role
BBC World Service is expanding its Hausa service in Abuja, transitioning to a digital‑first, video‑led newsroom. The Senior Journalist Team Manager will build and lead the new production hub, shaping how West African and diaspora audiences receive trusted news across multiple platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Design and launch BBC Hausa’s production hub, establishing workflows, standards and operational processes.
- Lead the creation of video journalism including investigations, documentaries, live streams, data‑driven pieces and social‑first formats.
- Provide expert advice to editorial leadership on video, digital strategy and audience growth.
- Use audience insights, analytics and performance data to inform commissioning and optimise distribution.
- Ensure editorial quality and relevance of multi‑platform content.
Required profile
- Proven experience managing a journalism or production team, setting direction and developing talent.
- Deep understanding of digital audience growth and distribution across social and video platforms.
- Strong track record of delivering high‑quality video content at scale.
- Ability to translate data and analytics into editorial and distribution decisions.

- YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp platform optimisation
- Analytics and SEO for content performance
- End‑to‑end video production: filming, editing, motion graphics, studio production, mobile journalism
- Management of large‑scale digital workflows
