Senior Journalist Team Manager – Dars Programme

About the role

The BBC Dars programme delivers award‑winning educational content for 11‑16‑year‑olds in underserved regions. As Senior Journalist Team Manager you will lead the Hausa digital, TV and radio output, shaping the editorial vision and ensuring high‑quality multiplatform delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Commission and oversee Dars content across TV, radio, digital and social platforms, working with education consultants.
• Assign stories, brief presenters, producers and VJs, and steer treatment development.
• Drive digital growth by applying analytics, best practices and a robust social‑media strategy.
• Maintain journalistic, linguistic and production standards, ensuring fact‑checking, legal clearance and compliance with BBC editorial policy.
• Supervise, support and motivate a small team of journalists in Abuja, fostering collaboration with Hausa service colleagues.

Required profile

• Fluency in Modern Standard Hausa and English, with proven translation ability between the two languages.
• Excellent writing and sub‑editing skills, capable of rewriting content for different audiences.
• Legal right to work in Nigeria and successful completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or an exemption certificate.
• Experience managing a journalism team and delivering multiplatform educational content.
