Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Senior Backend Engineer position based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, working on Droomwork’s AI‑native HR infrastructure platform. The role involves building highly scalable micro‑service back‑ends for payroll, talent management and other workforce operations over a six‑month project.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, develop and maintain scalable backend services using micro‑services and API‑first design.
• Design and implement distributed systems handling millions of payroll and recruitment transactions.
• Build secure RESTful APIs, webhooks, event‑driven services and SDKs for internal and external users.
• Implement authentication and authorization using OAuth2, JWT and RBAC in a multi‑tenant environment.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployments with Docker and Kubernetes, and ensure high availability.

Required profile

• 6+ years of production experience building and scaling distributed or SaaS systems.
• Strong background in multi‑tenant architecture, API‑first design and micro‑services.
• Hands‑on experience shipping an API‑first digital product and integrating AI/automation workflows.
• Familiarity with HR, fintech or enterprise SaaS platforms is a plus.
• Willing to relocate to or already based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
