Senior Associate – Oil & Gas

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Associate to join the Energy & Extractive Industries Practice Group. The successful candidate will provide legal and regulatory advisory across the upstream, mid‑stream and downstream sectors of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver financial targets and manage billings and collections for the practice area.
• Prepare legal opinions, research memoranda and risk assessments on oil & gas matters.
• Advise clients on licensing regimes, Production Sharing Contracts, joint ventures, farm‑in/farm‑out agreements and asset divestments under the Petroleum Industry Act and related laws.
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements such as crude handling, gas sale and purchase, gas transportation and service contracts.
• Support business development by preparing pitches and participating in industry events.
• Mentor junior team members, review their work and contribute to internal knowledge development.

Required profile

• LL.B (Second Class Upper) from a recognised university and called to the Nigerian Bar (Second Class Upper).
• Minimum 8 years post‑call experience, with at least 5 years focused on oil & gas transactions and advisory.
• Post‑graduate qualification (LL.M, MBA or equivalent) is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), NOGICD Act and related regulatory frameworks.

• Expertise in legal drafting of oil & gas commercial agreements.
• Advanced negotiation and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and provide strategic legal advice.
