Resident Doctor / Registrar, Diagnostics

About the role

The Resident Doctor/Registrar, Diagnostics will deliver comprehensive diagnostic care, interpret test results, and support patient management within the African Medical Centre of Excellence. This role also involves research, teaching, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and assist in diagnostic procedures across specialties such as radiology, pathology, and chemical pathology, ensuring patient safety and proper documentation.
• Interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests, correlating findings with clinical information to guide treatment plans.
• Educate patients about procedures, address concerns, and communicate results effectively to clinicians.
• Participate in clinical research, present findings, and help develop evidence‑based diagnostic protocols.
• Mentor medical students and interns, supervise their diagnostic activities, and contribute to departmental teaching sessions.
• Maintain accurate records in RIS, PACS, LIS and support electronic health record (EHR) optimization.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent with enrollment in a postgraduate residency program in a diagnostic specialty (Radiology, Pathology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology).
• Active medical license, BLS and ACLS certifications, and at least three years post‑qualification clinical experience.
• Strong knowledge of diagnostic techniques, quality control, and national/international clinical guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and a commitment to continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and procedures specific to the chosen specialty.
• Experience using RIS, PACS, LIS and other electronic health record systems.
• Ability to interpret laboratory and imaging results accurately.
