Research Technician III – Feed Innovation (2 positions)

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, on behalf of the International Livestock Research Institute, is seeking two Research Technician III professionals to support feed innovation activities at its Ibadan headquarters. The role involves field‑based work on demonstration plots, data collection, and stakeholder engagement to improve livestock feeding practices.

Key responsibilities

• Support establishment and maintenance of forage demonstration plots and feed units.
• Assist in demonstrating improved feed formulations and feeding practices at training and pilot farms.
• Collect basic data on feed use, animal performance, and cost implications.
• Record observations on technology adoption, farmer practices, and productivity changes.
• Enter, clean, and validate data using Excel or mobile data‑collection tools.
• Organise field visits, trainings, and demonstration events.
• Handle materials, tools, and inputs required for feed innovation activities.
• Maintain simple records of participants, beneficiaries, and training attendance.
• Take field notes, photographs, and activity summaries for reporting.
• Assist in monitoring alternative feed technologies such as HQCP production, BSFL units, and crop‑residue utilization.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience performing similar duties in a well‑structured environment.
• Good knowledge of livestock and dairy value chains.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organisational and planning abilities.
• Willingness to travel extensively across project locations and drive safely under challenging conditions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, cleaning and validation.
• Experience using mobile data‑collection tools.
