Research Data Scientist Graduate Trainee

About the role

ATAfrica is looking for recent Master's or Ph.D. graduates in Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field to join its Research Data Scientist Graduate Trainee programme. The role sits within the field of quantitative investment strategies, which uses data science, physics-inspired algorithms and mathematical models to find market inefficiencies, and aims to pioneer this field in Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams on innovative data science projects.
• Develop and implement machine learning algorithms, statistical models and data analysis techniques.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences and workshops.
• Take part in advanced courses, seminars and workshops on data science research.
• Mentor and collaborate with junior researchers, graduate students and interns.
• Stay up to date with the latest research developments and contribute positively to team meetings.

Required profile

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
• Strong research background in data science, machine learning or a related area.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing machine learning algorithms and statistical models.
• Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings is a plus.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, and ability to work independently and in a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or R.
• Interest in FinTech and WealthTech, especially investment and trading.
