R&A Technician II – Refrigeration & Air‑Conditioning

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is seeking two qualified Nigerian nationals to join its headquarters in Ibadan as R&A Technician II. This six‑month renewable position focuses on the installation, maintenance, and fault‑resolution of refrigeration, freezer, and air‑conditioning equipment supporting the institute’s research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Check and rectify faults on refrigerators and freezers.
• Assist in the installation of air‑conditioners, refrigerators and freezers.
• Perform routine inspections and servicing of cooling equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Operate and maintain cooling systems, including VRV and inverter technologies where applicable.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mechanical Engineering, a Trade Test Certificate, or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in refrigeration or HVAC maintenance within a structured organization.

Required skills

• Refrigeration troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
• Understanding of electrical systems and diagrams.
• Knowledge of refrigerants, pressure‑temperature relationships, and charging procedures.
• Proficiency with gauges, multimeters, vacuum pumps, and leak detectors.
• Familiarity with VRV and inverter systems (advantageous).
