R&A Technician II – Refrigeration & Air‑Conditioning (2 positions)

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is looking for two qualified R&A Technicians II to support the maintenance and operation of refrigeration and air‑conditioning equipment at its Ibadan headquarters. This fixed‑term position (6 months, renewable) offers hands‑on work in a research‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and rectify faults on refrigerators, freezers and air‑conditioners.
• Assist with the installation of new cooling equipment.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
• Operate and maintain cooling systems, including VRV and inverter technologies where applicable.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mechanical Engineering, a Trade Test Certificate, or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in refrigeration or air‑conditioning maintenance within a structured organization.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of refrigeration troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
• Understanding of electrical systems and schematics.
• Familiarity with refrigerants, pressure‑temperature relationships and charging procedures.
• Proficiency with gauges, multimeters, vacuum pumps and leak detectors.
• Knowledge of VRV and inverter cooling systems (advantageous).
