Project Officer

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a motivated Project Officer to support the planning, coordination and delivery of high‑level meetings, workshops and EU‑Horizon projects at its Ibadan headquarters. This role offers the chance to work with senior stakeholders across government, partners and consultants in a dynamic agricultural research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and facilitate meetings, conferences, workshops and stakeholder engagements, handling logistics, invitations and documentation.
• Monitor project timelines, deliverables and action points, ensuring timely follow‑up.
• Assist in preparing work plans, activity schedules, progress reports and implementation updates.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Maintain accurate records, filing systems and databases for project information.
• Support procurement, vendor coordination and operational logistics.
• Assist with budget monitoring, expense tracking and documentation of expenditures.
• Prepare detailed reports, summaries and briefing materials from meetings and project activities.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences, International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a similar project‑officer role within a well‑structured environment.
• Strong communication, organizational and report‑writing abilities.
• Professionalism, discretion and keen attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with project management tools.
