Procurement Manager

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is seeking a Procurement Manager on a two‑year renewable contract to lead end‑to‑end procurement activities for its programmes across Nigeria. The role supports the Institute’s mission by ensuring timely, compliant, and cost‑effective acquisition of goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the full procurement cycle – from needs identification, sourcing, tendering, bid evaluation, contracting to delivery follow‑up – in line with IITA policies and thresholds.
• Prepare and maintain an annual procurement plan aligned with programme work plans and budgets, tracking requests across states and countries.
• Conduct market surveys, maintain a pre‑qualified vendor database, and draft purchase orders, contracts, and service agreements.
• Monitor vendor performance, contract compliance, and delivery quality, escalating issues as needed.
• Maintain complete, auditable procurement records and ensure compliance with donor, national, and IITA safeguarding requirements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics or related field.
• Minimum five years of procurement experience, preferably with an international NGO, research institute or donor‑funded programme.
• Professional certification such as CIPS is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of procurement procedures, contract management, and vendor evaluation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP or electronic procurement systems.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications.
