Population and Data Specialist (Fixed‑Term) – Abuja

About the role

The Programme Management Specialist, Population and Data, leads UNFPA’s policy and data work in Nigeria, supporting the Deputy Representative and ensuring that population dynamics inform national development planning and SRHR investments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑level policy dialogue with government, UN agencies and development partners to integrate population data into national strategies and frameworks.
• Provide strategic advice and evidence‑based advocacy using demographic intelligence to shape policies on SRHR, gender‑based violence and demographic change.
• Support programme teams in tracking Nigeria’s commitments to global, regional and national frameworks related to UNFPA’s agenda.
• Develop policy briefs, white papers and infographics that translate population trends into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in population data analysis, policy development and advocacy within a development or UN context.
• Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with government ministries, donors, civil society and the private sector.
• Strong understanding of the ICPD Programme of Action, UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and related UN system policies.
