Phonics Teacher – Early Years Literacy

About the role

The Phonics Teacher will join the Lead British International School Ibadan campus to provide high-quality phonics instruction for early‑years learners. This full-time, on-site position focuses on developing reading and literacy skills through engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons.

Key responsibilities

• Design, plan and deliver daily phonics lessons that align with the English National Curriculum and Nigerian curriculum requirements.
• Assess pupil progress, maintain accurate records and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Prepare and organise teaching resources, including phonics schemes and classroom materials.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers to integrate phonics across subjects and support interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievement and areas for improvement.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions and school events.

Required profile

• Degree in Education, English or a related field and a recognised teaching certification.
• Experience teaching early years or primary literacy, with a strong focus on phonics.
• Familiarity with the English National Curriculum and ability to incorporate Nigerian curriculum elements.
• Effective classroom management, patience and a learner‑centred approach.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
