Pathologist – Clinical & Research Role

About the role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking a qualified Pathologist to provide accurate diagnoses and support patient care through laboratory analysis and research. This role combines clinical responsibilities with opportunities to contribute to cutting‑edge pathology research and quality improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic procedures including autopsies, histopathology, cytopathology, hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology testing.
• Interpret laboratory results, prepare concise pathology reports and advise clinicians on findings and treatment options.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and treatment plans.
• Conduct research projects, publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
• Maintain quality assurance and control measures, ensure compliance with accreditation standards and resolve any discrepancies.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB) and completion of a recognized pathology residency program.
• Board certification in Pathology.
• At least 4 years of internship and residency training, preferably in a tertiary‑care setting.
• In‑depth knowledge of pathology, laboratory procedures and relevant safety regulations.
• Strong analytical, communication and teamwork abilities.
