About the role

Mercy Group Clinics is seeking a qualified Optometrist to join its team in Marina, Abeokuta. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive eye care services, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective vision correction for patients.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct full eye examinations, including visual acuity, refraction, tonometry, visual field testing, and fundus evaluation.
• Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions within the scope of optometric practice.
• Prescribe and fit spectacles, contact lenses, and other corrective devices.
• Identify systemic disease signs affecting the eyes and refer patients for further medical evaluation.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and use EMR systems effectively.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of optometric equipment and report any issues promptly.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and continuing professional development.

Required profile

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) or Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) with a valid practicing license.
• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience (advantageous).
• Strong clinical judgment, problem‑solving abilities, and patient‑centered communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Refraction and comprehensive eye examination techniques.
• Tonometry, visual field testing, and fundus examination.
• Spectacle and contact lens fitting.
• Operation of modern optometric equipment.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
