Onsite IT Support – ISP Circuit Handoff (Freelance)

About the role

We are looking for a freelance IT professional to provide onsite support for newly installed ISP circuit handoffs. You will work directly at customer sites, connect the circuit, verify physical and logical connectivity, and confirm that the service is ready for production.

Key responsibilities

• Check‑in with the site contact, gain access to the network room and locate the ISP demarcation point.
• Identify the handoff type (RJ45 Ethernet, fiber, smart‑jack, NID, ISP router) and verify labeling.
• Connect the ISP handoff to the designated WAN/underlay port using the appropriate patch cable and ensure proper cable management.
• Validate link LEDs, interface status, and perform basic power checks; reseat cables as needed.
• Coordinate with the remote network team via MS Teams or phone, share photos of the handoff, WAN port, and equipment labels.
• Assist with interface verification, IP assignment, VLAN checks, ping and gateway testing, and MPLS or internet connectivity validation.
• Document circuit ID, capture before‑and‑after photos, record any issues, and obtain final confirmation of operational status.

Required profile

• Experience performing onsite network equipment installations and verifications.
• Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and communicate findings to remote engineers.
• Comfort working independently at customer sites and handling physical cabling.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Ethernet (RJ45) and fiber optic connections.
• Familiarity with console cable usage (USB‑to‑RJ45, USB‑C).
• Proficiency with MS Teams and PuTTY for remote coordination and testing.
• Basic networking concepts: IP addressing, VLANs, ping, routing, MPLS.
• Ability to perform cable management, label equipment, and capture site photographs.

What we offer

• Freelance contract with flexible scheduling.
• Opportunity to work on diverse ISP infrastructure projects.
• Clear deliverables and documentation expectations.
