Nutrition Nurse – Acute Malnutrition Management

About the role

The Nutrition Nurse is responsible for managing acute malnutrition in children within a stabilization centre, following national and international guidelines. The role combines clinical care, therapeutic feeding, and capacity‑building for staff.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, record vital signs, and administer medicines according to protocol.
• Prepare and deliver therapeutic feeds and specialized medicines for severely malnourished children.
• Monitor daily nutritional status and provide nutrition counselling and health education to mothers and caretakers.
• Maintain adequate stock of drugs and nutrition supplies; report any shortages.
• Collaborate with the SC Doctor and Nutrition Manager on operational issues.
• Ensure proper hand‑over of duties, update medical and nutritional records, and document admission, discharge, and transfer criteria.
• Compile statistical data (admissions, defaults, cures, deaths) and draft activity reports.
• Maintain supply consumption reports and perform other assigned duties.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a degree from a recognized institute.
• Minimum two years’ experience in CMAM and IYCF programmes.
• Valid, current practising licence.
• Excellent report‑writing skills and fluency in English plus the required national/local language.
• Commitment to the organisation’s values and strong communication abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of CMAM (Community Management of Acute Malnutrition) protocols.
• Experience with IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding) programmes.
• Therapeutic feed preparation and administration.
• Medical record management and statistical reporting.
