Midwife – Maternal & Newborn Care

About the role

The Midwife will provide comprehensive maternal and newborn health services to women of all ages in Abuja, following International Medical Corps protocols. Working under the supervision of a specialist doctor, the role covers the full continuum of care from pre‑pregnancy through post‑delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver antenatal, delivery, and post‑natal care, including emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC and CEmONC).
• Provide clinical care for survivors of violence against women and girls.
• Assess referral feasibility from traditional birth attendants to the OPD/MCH.
• Maintain hygiene, sterilization, and universal precaution standards.
• Perform cleaning and minor maintenance of biomedical equipment and report malfunctions.
• Manage drug and equipment supplies, including monitoring consumption and ordering.
• Ensure patient privacy, confidentiality, and accurate documentation of admissions, deliveries, and referrals.
• Conduct skilled deliveries independently and manage obstetric emergencies per national/international protocols.
• Support breastfeeding counseling and mental‑health promotion for at‑risk infants and mothers.
• Produce timely and accurate reports and maintain data quality for ANC, delivery, and PNC registers.

Required profile

• Ability to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required skills

• Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC).
• Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC).
• Universal precautions and infection control.
• Clinical care for survivors of gender‑based violence.
• Biomedical equipment cleaning and minor maintenance.
• Supply chain monitoring and ordering of maternity drugs/equipment.
• Data entry and quality assurance for maternal health registers.
