About the role
The Medical Waste Management Operator will ensure safe collection, segregation, transport, treatment and disposal of medical and hazardous waste within the African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja. The role supports infection control, environmental compliance and public health protection.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and sort medical waste from wards, operating rooms and laboratories, using colour‑coded bins and biohazard containers.
- Transport waste safely using carts, trolleys or automated units while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Operate waste treatment equipment such as incinerators, autoclaves or chemical disinfection units.
- Maintain accurate records of waste types, volumes and disposal activities and report incidents.
- Ensure compliance with hospital and national waste management regulations and support internal audits.
Required profile
- B.Sc. or HND in Business Administration or related field.
- Certificate or training in waste management, environmental science or occupational health and safety.
- 1‑5 years experience in medical waste handling or environmental services, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Knowledge of hospital waste disposal guidelines and infection control practices.
Required skills
- Operation of incinerators for waste treatment.
- Operation of autoclaves for sterilisation of waste.
