Medical Laboratory Scientist/Microbiologist

About the role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Microbiologist to support its diagnostic services. You will work closely with clinicians to identify infectious agents and contribute to patient care, infection control and research initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Isolate, cultivate and identify microorganisms from clinical specimens using culture, microscopy and molecular diagnostics.
• Interpret results, prepare clear reports and advise clinicians on appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform calibration and ensure quality control checks are completed regularly.
• Participate in infection‑control surveillance, outbreak investigations and advise on preventive measures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science or Pathology (Master’s degree is a plus).
• 1‑4 years of progressive experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
• Professional certification as a Technologist or Specialist in Microbiology is advantageous.
