Medical Laboratory Scientist – Head of Laboratory

About the role

Visco Group of Companies Limited is looking for an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to lead its laboratory operations. As Head of Laboratory, you will ensure accurate test results, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide strategic direction to the lab team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all laboratory staff, manage schedules and workflow.
• Perform and oversee routine and advanced tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.
• Validate, authorize, and release test results with high accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with MLSCN, NCDC, and all quality and biosafety standards.
• Maintain and enforce SOPs for all laboratory processes.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Manage inventory, track reagent usage and coordinate requisitions.
• Lead QC and QA activities, including internal and external assessments.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and biosafety‑compliant laboratory environment.
• Prepare and submit operational, QC, and incident reports to management.
• Provide training, mentorship, and professional development for staff.
• Liaise with clinicians and other departments to support patient care.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS).
• Current practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
• Minimum 2–3 years post‑NYSC experience.
• Strong technical knowledge across major laboratory units.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
• High accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical practice.
