Managing Director, Commodities & Portfolio Operations

About the role

Ark Capital is seeking an experienced commodities executive to build and lead a new commodities and portfolio operations business. The role focuses on protecting investor capital after investments and financing transactions by establishing the organisation, operating infrastructure, relationships, controls and field capabilities needed to monitor portfolio companies, commodity transactions, inventory, supply chains, production activities and financed assets.

Key responsibilities

• Build the Business – design and launch the portfolio monitoring and commodities operations company, defining its commercial model, team structure, operating procedures, technology stack and revenue streams.
• Portfolio Monitoring – develop systems to track fund utilisation, production, inventory, procurement, sales, receivables and cash conversion, providing early warning of operational problems.
• Commodity Operations – oversee agricultural, mineral and energy commodity transactions, managing sourcing, storage, transportation, processing, inspection, quality assurance and export.
• Risk Management – identify operational, market, logistics and fraud risks, design controls, and coordinate escalation with investment, credit, legal and collections teams.
• Network & Market Development – cultivate senior relationships across Nigeria and international commodity markets to verify transactions, resolve issues and create new commercial opportunities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in commodity trading, operations, supply‑chain management, structured trade finance or commodity investment, with exposure to agriculture, minerals and energy.
• Proven senior leadership record as founder, CEO, Managing Director or business‑unit head with full commercial responsibility.
• Deep network of credible industry relationships and ability to negotiate large commercial deals.
• Strong understanding of commodity transaction structures, financial statements, working‑capital, inventory finance, trade finance and credit risk.
• Commercially aggressive yet disciplined in risk management, and comfortable visiting farms, mines, warehouses, factories and ports.
• Entrepreneurial mindset capable of building an organisation from the ground up.
