Legal Officer - Loan Recovery

About the role

A Legal Officer is sought to provide legal support for K2K Legacy Loans, with a strong focus on loan recovery, documentation, dispute resolution and court representation. The role works closely with the Recovery, Operations and Management teams to recover outstanding loans while protecting the company's legal and commercial interests. The position is full-time and hybrid based in Lagos.

Key responsibilities

• Review and prepare loan agreements, undertakings, demand letters, recovery notices and other legal documents, and give legal guidance on loan transactions, recovery and customer disputes.
• Ensure loan and recovery documentation complies with applicable laws and company policies, and identify and flag legal risks.
• Manage the legal recovery of delinquent and defaulted loans, issuing demand letters, pre-action notices and other correspondence to defaulting customers and guarantors.
• Work with the Recovery Team on strategies for difficult or high-value cases, negotiate repayment arrangements and settlements, and keep accurate records of recovery cases.
• Represent the company in court and other proceedings on loan recovery and disputes, liaise with external solicitors, and prepare case files, briefs, affidavits and pleadings.
• Track court cases, hearings and rulings, and update management regularly on litigation and recovery matters.
• Stay informed on laws affecting lending and debt recovery, advise management on legal implications of recovery actions, and ensure recovery is conducted within legal and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• LL.B degree from a recognised institution.
• Call to Bar qualification is required.
• 4 years' relevant experience in legal practice, debt recovery, litigation, financial services or a related field; experience with loan recovery or financial disputes is an added advantage.
• Ability to work with recovery, operations and management teams.
