Lead Pathologist

About the role

The Lead Pathologist will head the Diagnostics Services department at the African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja, ensuring accurate and timely pathology diagnoses for a wide range of clinical specimens. This senior position combines clinical expertise, leadership, and strategic planning to support high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all diagnostic pathology services, including histopathology, cytopathology and molecular pathology.
• Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons and physicians to provide integrated patient care.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Supervise and mentor a team of pathologists and laboratory staff.
• Develop and implement new diagnostic protocols and evaluate emerging technologies.
• Lead research initiatives and quality‑assurance programs.
• Manage relationships with external laboratories and ensure seamless diagnostic support.
• Participate in departmental budgeting, strategic planning and resource allocation.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in diagnostic pathology with exposure to subspecialties.
• Board certification in pathology and a valid Nigerian medical license.
• Strong analytical ability and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical governance.
