Laboratory Technician - Histopathology

About the role

The Laboratory Technician – Histopathology will perform technical laboratory procedures to prepare, process, and analyze tissue specimens for diagnostic, research, and teaching purposes. The role holder will ensure compliance with quality standards, laboratory protocols, and regulatory requirements, supporting pathologists in providing accurate and timely diagnostic reports.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify, and log tissue specimens, assigning unique identifiers and maintaining detailed records.
• Perform gross tissue processing, including trimming, embedding, and operating tissue processors for dehydration and clearing.
• Carry out routine H&E staining as well as special stains (PAS, Masson's trichrome, Giemsa) and immunohistochemistry techniques.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as microtomes, cryostats, tissue processors, and stainers, logging maintenance activities.
• Conduct quality control checks on reagents, stains, and equipment, and participate in internal and external accreditation programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a histopathology laboratory, demonstrating proficiency in tissue processing and staining techniques.
