Journalist – Hausa Educational Programme

About the role

The BBC World Service is looking for a Hausa‑speaking journalist to join its award‑winning Dars Hausa programme. This full‑time, fixed‑term role (until 30 June 2027) will support the creation of educational content for 11‑16‑year‑olds in Nigeria and the wider region.

Key responsibilities

• Translate BBC content from English into clear, culturally relevant Hausa.
• Write and produce engaging scripts for digital videos, social media, and TV packages.
• Research, assemble, edit and deliver multi‑platform content to high editorial standards.
• Meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and impartiality.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to avoid duplication and share best practices.

Required profile

• Fluent in Modern Standard Hausa and English with proven translation ability.
• Strong presentation skills for digital video, TV and audio aimed at young audiences.
• Understanding of what makes compelling digital video across platforms.
• Experience writing scripts in Hausa for multi‑platform educational content.
