IoT Engineer – Lagos

About the role

Koolboks is seeking an IoT Engineer to design, develop and maintain end‑to‑end Internet of Things solutions that connect devices, sensors and cloud services. You will work across hardware, firmware, cloud platforms and data pipelines to deliver secure, scalable and reliable IoT products for our solar‑powered refrigeration business.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement complete IoT stacks (device → gateway → cloud → application).
• Develop and maintain firmware for micro‑controllers, sensors and actuators.
• Integrate devices with cloud platforms such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub or Google Cloud IoT.
• Implement communication protocols (MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, CoAP, BLE, Zigbee, LoRaWAN).
• Ensure device security, authentication, encryption and OTA updates.
• Collect, process and analyse device data for monitoring and insights.
• Troubleshoot hardware, firmware and network issues.
• Collaborate with hardware, software and data teams to deliver solutions.
• Create technical documentation and system diagrams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with embedded systems and micro‑controllers (e.g., ESP32, STM32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
• Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python or Java.
• Hands‑on experience with IoT communication protocols (MQTT, HTTP, BLE, etc.).
• Experience with cloud services and REST APIs.
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, Wi‑Fi, cellular, LPWAN).
• Familiarity with Linux‑based systems.
• Knowledge of security best practices for IoT systems.
