About the role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking an experienced Hepatobiliary Surgeon to lead its HPB service. The role involves delivering high‑quality surgical care for complex liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases and contributing to the centre’s teaching and research missions.
Key responsibilities
- Perform complex liver resections, pancreatic resections (including Whipple procedures), bile duct repairs and laparoscopic HPB surgeries.
- Conduct and interpret intra‑operative ultrasound, cholangiography and, when required, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
- Develop individualized peri‑operative and long‑term treatment plans following evidence‑based oncological guidelines.
- Provide expert surgical consultation to multidisciplinary teams including oncology, gastroenterology, radiology and intensive care.
- Participate actively in HPB Tumor Board meetings and other MDT discussions.
- Teach and mentor junior medical staff and contribute to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
Required profile
- Board‑certified or equivalent specialist in Hepatobiliary/HPB surgery.
- Proven experience in complex liver and pancreatic surgery.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and to teach junior clinicians.
- Commitment to delivering patient‑centred care in a high‑volume tertiary centre.
