Hematologist (Oncology)

About the role

A leading oncology healthcare provider in Lekki, Lagos is seeking a skilled and compassionate Hematologist (Oncology) to diagnose, treat and manage patients with benign and malignant hematological disorders, including leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. The role sits within a multidisciplinary oncology team and reports to the Medical Director / Head of Oncology Services.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage patients with hematological disorders and blood cancers, developing individualized treatment plans including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and supportive care.
• Interpret laboratory investigations, bone marrow biopsies, blood smears and molecular diagnostic results, and monitor treatment response.
• Manage hematological emergencies and treatment-related complications, provide transfusion support and oversee blood product use.
• Take part in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and coordinate referrals with oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists and nursing teams.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention and quality assurance guidelines, and take part in clinical audits.
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis and follow-up, and mentor junior doctors where required.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent; fellowship in Hematology from NPMCN or WACP.
• Current practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
• Minimum 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience as a Hematologist, including managing hematological malignancies in an oncology or tertiary setting.
• Experience administering and monitoring chemotherapy protocols is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Strong clinical and diagnostic expertise in hematology and oncology, including chemotherapy and supportive care protocols.
• Excellent communication, clinical decision-making and teamwork skills.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.

The advertised monthly salary is N500,000 - N700,000, negotiable based on experience. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
