Healthcare Assistant

About the role

A multi-specialty hospital in Lagos is hiring a full-time, on-site Healthcare Assistant. The role provides basic patient care and non-clinical support to patients under the supervision of Registered Nurses, helping ensure their comfort, safety, dignity and well-being while supporting the delivery of nursing services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, bed baths and personal hygiene.
• Measure, document and report patients' vital signs as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
• Help with patient positioning, turning, mobilisation and transfers, and assist with feeding, hydration, toileting and diaper changes.
• Empty urinary drainage bags and document output as delegated.
• Maintain clean and tidy patient beds and surroundings, change bed linens and keep care areas organised.
• Segregate and dispose of healthcare waste properly, and transport patients, specimens and non-controlled items as assigned.
• Report changes in condition, abnormal vital signs and other concerns promptly to the supervising nurse.
• Ensure basic patient-care supplies are available and report shortages; observe infection prevention and control protocols and protect patient privacy and dignity.
• Perform other non-clinical duties within the approved scope of practice.

Required profile

• Minimum of secondary school education.
• Previous hospital or healthcare experience is desirable.
• Relevant Healthcare Assistant training or certification is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of patient care and infection prevention and control.
