Health Officer – Primary Health Care (Borno, Nigeria)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Health Officer to support primary health‑care services across multiple sites in Borno State, Nigeria. Reporting to the Health Manager, the officer will strengthen health service delivery, provide medical supervision, and coach frontline providers.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure provision of essential lifesaving health and sexual‑reproductive health (SRH) services at all implementation sites.
• Rotate weekly among supported facilities to deliver services and build capacity of primary health‑care staff and incentive workers.
• Coordinate with the supply‑chain team to forecast, receive, store, and distribute medical commodities.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including archiving of waybills, distribution plans, and delivery notes.
• Enforce infection prevention and control (IPC) standards and proper waste management at all sites.
• Facilitate drug distribution from pharmacy to service points, ensuring continuous stock availability.

Required profile

• Experience in delivering primary health‑care services in humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
• Proven ability to provide on‑the‑job coaching and medical supervision to frontline health workers.
• Familiarity with health supply‑chain processes and documentation requirements.
• Ability to work across multiple locations in Borno State and travel regularly.
