Health Field Officer – Nutrition & Primary Care (Level 2)

About the role

The International Committee of the Red Cross is seeking a Health Field Officer 2 to lead nutrition and primary health care activities in the Damaturu sub‑delegation. Reporting to the Damaturu Health Team Leader, you will act as the focal point for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) services and support a range of community and facility‑based health programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain dialogue with hospital coordination units and monitor patient care supported by ICRC.
• Serve as the ICRC focal point for the Stabilization Centre (SC) and conduct regular supportive supervision visits.
• Ensure adherence to national and international SAM management protocols.
• Mentor and train hospital staff on‑the‑job and through formal capacity‑building activities.
• Track admissions, outcomes, cure rates, mortality and other key performance indicators.
• Assist with forecasting, procurement and management of therapeutic feeds, drugs and medical supplies.
• Support sustainability planning and coordination with hospital management and health authorities.
• Oversee implementation and quality monitoring of Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) and Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP) in ICRC‑supported health facilities.
• Strengthen quality of care in outpatient consultations, maternal‑child health, immunisation, family planning and preventive services.
• Collaborate with the Economic Security team to implement community‑based SAM activities.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in health and nutrition programmes, particularly SAM management at hospital level.
• Familiarity with national and international humanitarian health protocols.
• Proven ability to supervise, mentor and build capacity of health staff.
• Strong coordination skills with health authorities and partner organisations.
